Jamaican Patties

Ingredients

Filling

1 Large onion

15 ml Vegetable oil

500 g Ground beef

5 ml Salt

5 ml Curry powder

3 ml Thyme

2 ml Pepper

100 ml Breadcrumbs

250 ml Water

Pastry

500 ml All purpose flour

10 ml Baking powder

5 ml Curry powder

2 ml Turmeric

150 ml Shortening

50 ml Butter

125 ml Cold water

Directions

Filling

1Peel onion and chop fine, heat oil add onion and ground beef until brown 5 – 10 minutes.

2Add salt, curry powder, thyme, and pepper, cook I minute add breadcrumbs and stir then add water.

3Cook on low heat 2-3 minutes.

4The mixture should not be watery.

Pastry

1Measure flour, baking powder, curry powder, salt, turmeric into a bowl.

2Add the shortening and butter cutting them into flour mixture until it resembles coarse bread crumbs. Add cold water.

3Set oven at 350 F.

4You need a small glass of water and 50 ml flour to assemble patties.

5Bake for 25-30 minutes.
