Spicy Patties

Ingredients

Pastry

4 cups All purpose flour

4 tsp Baking powder

2 tsp Curry powder

1 tsp Salt

1 tsp Turmeric

1 1/3 cup Shortening

½ cup Butter

1 cup Cold water

Curried Beef Filling

2 tbsp Vegetable oil

2 Large onions finely chopped

2 Cloves garlic minced

2 lbs Ground beef

1 tbsp Curry powder

1 ½ tbsp Salt

1 ½ tbsp Thyme

1 tsp Black pepper

Pinch Cayenne pepper

2 cups Water

1 cup Fresh bread crumbs

Directions

Pastry

1In a large bowl stir together flour, baking powder, curry powder, salt and turmeric.

2Cut in shortening and butter until mixture resembles fine crumbs with a few large pieces.

3Stir with a fork, pour in water , stir to make a soft dough.

4 Gather together into a ball , wrap and chill 1 hour or up to 5 days.

5Can be frozen up to 3 weeks

Curried Beef Filling

1In a large skillet heat oil over medium heat, cook onions and garlic until softened 5 minutes.

2Remove onion mixture set aside. Increase heat to high, cook beef until no longer pink, drain off fat.

3Stir in onion mixture, curry, salt, thyme, and black and cayenne peppers.

4Cook over medium heat for 3 minutes.

Then

1Pour in water, bring to a boil, reduce heat to simmer for 5 to 10 minutes or until most of the water is absorbed.

2Stir in bread crumbs, mixture should be moist not runny.

3Adjust seasoning to taste.

4Bake 375 F for 25 to 30 minutes.
